Martin Methodist College (MMC) has announced the addition of two new members to the board of trustees: Larry Odom and Steve Spivey.
Larry Odom is past chairman/CEO and president of Odom’s Tennessee Pride Sausage, Inc., where he worked fulltime for 38 years while making his way up the corporate ladder. From 1982-1985, he served as plant manager, and in 1985, he was appointed executive vice-president. In 1992, he served as president, and in 2001, he was promoted to chairman/CEO.
Along with his service for Odom’s Tennessee Pride Sausage, Inc., Odom also served as the past president and board member of the Mid-States Meat Association. He was a member of the Executive Committee of the American Meat Institute Board of Directors, where he served as chairman for 2011-2012. He was a past president of the Nashville Ronald McDonald House Board of Directors, and he was a past president of the Kiwanis Club of Madison, TN.
Currently, Odom is serving as chairman of the board of trust for HCA’s Skyline Medical Center in Nashville. He is a member of The Gideons International, and he is also an active member and deacon of Parkway Baptist Church.
"This is my second tour on the board, and I have followed with great interest the amazing accomplishments since I left,” said Odom. “It is always nice to serve with people I have respect for. It is good to be back."
Steve Spivey began working in the beverage industry at nineteen, and he joined Cardin Distributing Company, Inc. in 1977, where he served in various leadership positions including sales manager. In 2002, he was appointed vice-president/general manager, and he still holds that position today.
Along with his current position at Cardin Distributing Company, Inc., Spivey also serves on the Tennessee Malt Beverage Association Board of Directors, acting as chairman after having previously served as treasurer and vice-president. He is a long-time member of Pulaski First United Methodist Church where he is church treasurer. He’s a former member of The Giles County Chamber of Commerce Board, and he’s a past president of The Pulaski Exchange Club. He previously served as president of both the Board of Directors of Hillcrest Country Club and Richland Improvement Company, and he’s currently a member on the City of Pulaski Planning Commission.
“I consider it an honor and a privilege to be asked to serve as a trustee for MMC,” said Spivey. “I, being a Pulaski businessman, understand the importance of MMC and the contribution the college makes to our community. I look forward to helping any way I can to further enhance MMC’s importance and its contribution to Pulaski and the surrounding counties.”
“The addition of Larry Odom and Steve Spivey to our board of trustees only adds to the unparalleled strength of leadership already represented on our board,” said MMC Interim President Robby Shelton. “Great things are in store for Martin Methodist College.”
“Our board of trustees comprises a group of remarkable leaders, and the addition of noted businessmen Larry Odom and Steve Spivey continues this tradition,” said Chairman of the MMC Board of Trustees Byron Trauger. “Larry and Steve will help us propel MMC forward, and I’m looking forward to working with them.”
