Professor Brant Harwell has been in the humanities division at Martin Methodist since 1993, teaching composition, literature, linguistics, and film courses.  A graduate of The University of Tennessee, Knoxville (M.A. 1987, Ph.D. 1992), Harwell currently teaches a wide variety of courses, his favorites including courses in long fiction and American Nature Writing.  He also currently serves as Director of the W. Garie Taylor Honors Program, helping that program establish its new international studies program at Harlaxton College in Grantham, England, and create its annual contest for research scholarships for competing juniors in the honors program.  Harwell is the husband of Amy Foglietta Harwell, an MMC alumnus and local high school teacher, and the father of two, Gina and Andrew .  He is an avid outdoorsman, an enthusiastic amateur musician, and an active member of First Baptist Church, Pulaski.
