This is an introductory course designed to acquaint the student with the fundamental tasks of all economic systems with emphasis on the overall structure of our economic system. The first semester, macroeconomics, is designed to give the student a broad view of our economic system, emphasizing causes of economic cycles, the role of government in the economy, the function of monetary and fiscal policy, and income determination and measures. The second semester, microeconomics, emphasizes the different market structures (pure competition, monopoly, oligopoly, and monopolistic competition), price determinations, and the role of labor unions in our economy. Fall and Spring.
