HISTORY OF THE NURSING DIVISION
Martin Methodist College, located in Pulaski, Tennessee became a baccalaureate degree granting institution in 1993. Expansion of the campus and student body has been undertaken with careful deliberation, projection of the need for educational programs, and responsiveness in meeting the region’s needs and requests for the development of professional programs. In January 1999, The Board of Trustees set into motion a ten-year plan titled The Martin 2010 Plan. This plan includes the renovation and expansion of current campus facilities, and the expansion of the student body.
The baccalaureate program in nursing at Martin Methodist College was originally the vision of President Ted Brown and Vice President James T. Murrell in response to the need for a baccalaureate nursing program in the 12 county South Central Region of Tennessee. There were no baccalaureate programs in nursing within this region. On September 27, 2005, Martin Methodist College presented its Letter of Intent to Initiate a Baccalaureate Degree Nursing Program to the Tennessee State Board of Nursing. The Letter of Intent was approved and on February 15, 2006, the College received initial approval of its proposed baccalaureate nursing program by the Tennessee State Board of Nursing. Upon receipt of Initial Approval, the Division of Nursing was formally established as the sixth Division of Study at Martin Methodist College. The other divisions within the College include: Business, Education, Humanities, Mathematics and Sciences, and Social Sciences.
