II.  Faculty Development Workshops

Martin Methodist College
Teaching Fellows Program

Martin Methodist College Teaching Fellows include six colleagues with different disciplines who face similar challenges in their academic careers despite their wide range of academic interests. Fellows serve students and faculty colleagues, by sharing ideas in workshops and offering information on effective teaching methods to faculty.  Teaching fellows meet once a month to discuss ways to improve teaching and learning on the campus.

During the academic year, the Teaching Fellows as a group will sponsor a series of lunch seminars (Education Luncheons) addressing common pedagogical approaches and teaching strategies that can be used in college courses. The fellows will lead the discussions that are to be held monthly. These fellows are also expected to be advocates for the commitment in teaching and learning and endorse the scholarship of teaching throughout the campus.

Teaching Fellows will also act as mentors for new faculty members. Fellows should be available to assist new faculty with questions about the university policies, procedures, academic mentoring program, etc.

Program Objectives:
  • To promote interdisciplinary discussion about a wide variety of teaching and professional issues. These could include but are not limited to: communicating with students, expectations in the classroom, classroom evaluation techniques, program evaluation, and the integration of technology into the classroom.
  • To acknowledge both teaching and learning as fundamental dimensions of undergraduate education.
  • To develop collegiality throughout the faculty and promote the exchange of teaching methods, strategies, successes and challenges.
  • To provide MMC Teaching Fellows the opportunities to examine effective teaching technologies, strategies, and course designs, as well as to develop innovations.
  • To encourage MMC Teaching Fellows to be reflective teachers in their own classrooms.

Eligibility:

Eligible faculty members must have terminal degrees or hold the rank of assistant professor, associate professor or professor. Eligible faculty members must be a member of the tenure-track or the academic general faculty and have taught at Martin Methodist College for no less than two years.

Application:
Candidates may nominate themselves or accept nomination by their departmental chair. To apply, a candidate must submit to the Vice President of Academic Affairs by the Second Monday of March (No more than 10 pages in length, total):

  • List of courses taught at Martin Methodist College.
  • A letter of support from your Division Chair.
