Upward Bound is a program designed to motivate students to improve their grades in high school and go on to earn a college education. Because Upward Bound is funded by the U.S. Department of Education, there is no cost to those selected to participate in the program.
Students attending high schools in Giles, Maury, Lawrence, and Wayne Counties are eligible to participate in the Upward Bound Program at Martin Methodist College in Pulaski. Students should also be interested in attending college upon completion of high school. Finally, students should have academic need and meet the criteria of either (a) family income represents being economically disadvantaged or (b) neither parent has a four-year college degree.
How Does A Student Apply?
Interested students and their parents must first complete an application. Once students are selected, Upward Bound students will take part in two components: Academic and Summer. Full participation is required in both components.

The Academic Component
The Upward Bound program includes: Saturday workshops on the campus of Martin Methodist College and field trips throughout the school year; personal college planning and academic advising conducted on a regular basis; and a monthly check awarded to students based on successful program participation.
The Summer Component
For five weeks in the summer, Upward Bound students reside in housing on the MMC campus and take enrichment classes each day. After successful completion of summer classes, participants are rewarded with a major trip.
