Three individuals, one team named to Sports Hall of Fame Three individuals and one team were inducted into the Martin Methodist College Sports Hall of Fame as 2008 Homecoming activities were held on Saturday, Feb. 2.
During halftime of the women’s basketball game on Saturday, Feb. 2, three individuals and one team were presented as the newest inductees into the Martin Methodist College Sports Hall of Fame. The actual induction ceremonies had been held earlier that day at a special luncheon, during which time the following former Martin athletes were honored:
Tennis standout Frank “Buddy” Carollo, a member of the Class of 1971;
Baseball standout Tommy Simpson, a member of the Class of 1967;
Joe Hardin, director of athletics at Martin Methodist from 1986-96, as well as coach of the men’s and women’s basketball teams and the golf team.
The 1974-75 men’s tennis team that won back-to-back Tennessee Junior College Athletic Association championships and Region 7 championships, advancing to the national junior college tournament both years.
