September 1 Registration Deadline is Fast Approaching for the Children’s Ministry Institute. Do you have someone registered from your church for an eight month learning experience that could radically improve your congregation’s ministry to children?
The Youth Ministry Institute has impacted youth ministry in the Tennessee Annual Conference and so it is not surprising that the Conference’s Connectional Ministries in partnership with the Center for Church Leadership at Martin Methodist College have taken the Institute format and made it available for workers with children.
The Children’s Ministry Institute is designed, according to Institute Dean Judy Norris, to be both a theological and practical foundation for anyone who works with children in the church, or has a desire to work with children. The content is designed for persons from small to medium sized churches. These are persons by and large with the will and passion to work in faith development of children but without the training to do so. This event is for teachers, coordinators of children’s ministry —anyone who works with children on a local church level. The Institute is an in-depth training that offers children's leaders of local congregations:
An opportunity to affirm one's call, passion and love for ministry with children
- An opportunity to further develop practical skills in planning ministries with children
- A holistic, theological understanding of children and children's ministries
- A United Methodist understanding and perspective
- A supportative relationship with children's leaders
Susan Groseclose, Director of Nurture Ministries of the Tennessee Conference, is strong in her belief that the Institute can and will make a difference across the conference. She says, “As local church children's leaders gain skills, knowledge and become familiar with a wide variety of resources and ministry ideas through the Children's Ministry Institute, congregations will see that ministries with children will be enriched and open up possibilities for the church to explore ways to nurture and reach out to children, making disciples of Jesus Christ.”
The staff includes some of the finest national and conference leaders including Mary Alice Gran, Mary Jane Pierce-Norton, Susan Groseclose, Duane Ewers, Domenic Nigrelli, Judy Newman St.John, Tina Rose, and others.
