Certified Lay Ministers Academy

CERTIFIED LAY MINISTERS ACADEMY

MAY 10-12, 2013

MARTIN METHODIST COLLEGE

"But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's own people, in order that you may proclaim the mighty acts of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light." Peter 2:9

Certified Lay Minister follows the early Methodist tradition of lay preachers and class leaders who served in Christian community and was established at the 2004 General Conference.

Certified Lay Ministers are vital to the mission and ministry of churches that:

  • Are small and may be struggling to afford traditional pastoral leadership
  • Have been on multipoint charges
  • Are sharing clergy leadership
  • Are increasing continuity of leadership
  • Are experiencing numeric growth and can benefit from a pastoral team
  • Are serving multicultural or cross-cultural groups by developing indigenous leadership

Module I: Call and Covenant for Ministry

Module II: The Practice of Ministry

Module III: Organization of Ministry

Sponsored by the Tennessee Conference Board of Laity and the Cal Turner Jr., Center for Church Leadership; the Certify Lay Minister Academy where module I, II, III will be taught, will be held at Martin Methodist College from May 10 - 12, 2013.  The academy is one required component in the steps leading to certification as a Certified Lay Minister.  We invite you to participate in this enriching event, led by highly-qualified leaders from our Conference.
