For the seventh year, campus and community will present Martin Pride Days, a weeklong series of activities designed to let
Giles
County businesses and residents join the college’s faculty and staff in expressing their appreciation for MMC students.
Martin Pride always carries a fresh theme having to do with a newly established program into the new year. The theme for this year’s Martin Pride Days is “RedHawks Are Going Green,” as 2009 unveils the new Gault Fine Arts Center, a $3.2 million renovation, which turned an old gymnasium, built in 1931, into a beautiful facility for music and visual art. Along with "recycling" historic elements of the old gym, including the original basketball court, it is the first facilty in Giles County to be heated and air-conditioned by an eco-friendly geothermal system.
Events include Dinner on the Green, in which local churches help cater a campuswide meal on the Campus Green. That event is followed by a concert at the Grissom Gazebo featuring The WannaBeatles.
The other favorite event each year is the Beach Party Extravaganza on the Square, in which the courthouse square is transformed into a carnival, including, sand volleyball, a waterslide, a challenging obstatcle course, and plenty of music – including karaoke. The Giles County Chamber of Commerce, local government, and Martin Methodist College all join together to help kick the year off right!
