A freshman business major was named Ms. Martin 2011 on Wednesday, Nov. 2.
Maria Charrys, a 19-year-old first-year student from Valledupar, Colombia, was crowned in the annual pageant held in Martin Hall Auditorium. She is a member of the RedHawk women’s tennis team and The RedHawk Reporter newspaper staff. The pageant winner receives a $1,000 scholarship from Martin Methodist.
She was selected from 24 contestants who took the stage at the beginning of the evening. Judging the event this year were: Emily Pitcock, a vice president at First National Bank who has been involved with state fair pageants for a number of years; Jamie Hyatt Hollis, who is employed by the Giles County Board of Education and owner of Tumble Town gymnastics in Pulaski; and Overton Campbell, a 1975 graduate of Martin College who serves as an attorney for American General Life and Accident Insurance Co. in Nashville.

First runner-up Sharah Dass, 21, a sophomore accounting major from Karachi, Pakistan, who is a member of the Student Government Association and serves as the senator from the sophomore class;

Second runner-up Bianca Sandifer, 23, a senior music performance major from Tanner, Ala., who is a member of the Richland Creek music ensemble. She was also named Ms. Congeniality.

Third runner-up Baleigh Price, 19, a sophomore psychology major from Leoma, Tenn., who is a member of the RedHawk cheerleading squad;

Fourth-runner up Kayla Kizer, 18, a freshman sport management major from Culleoka, Tenn., who is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the RedHawk volleyball team;
