A group of 19 students and two staff members from Martin Methodist College will spend the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend learning more about the civil rights leader and the courageous work college students were doing alongside of him.
The Martin Methodist contingent will travel to Memphis, Tenn., for the annual three-day Social Justice Trip, where the group will have an opportunity to learn more about the student impact during the Civil Rights Movement.
Brandi Belcher, who serves as coordinator of the Martin Serves program on the MMC campus, said the group will visit three different museums, including the National Civil Rights Museum, which is located at the Lorraine Motel, site of the assassination of Martin Luther King on April 4, 1968.
The group will also complete a service project designed to give back to the community, Belcher said.
The MMC contingent will return on Monday, Jan. 16.
