
The story of Anne Frank will come to life in dance when the Nashville Ballet performs at Martin Methodist College on Thursday, Feb. 2.
The performance, part of the college’s Della Clayton Lee Cultural Arts Series, is presented in partnership by MMC and the Giles County Public Library. Curtain time is 7 p.m. in the Martin Hall Auditorium, and admission is free to the public. For reservations, call Kim Harrison in the president’s office at Martin Methodist College at 931-363-9876.
Nashville Ballet’s performance is made possible by the Giles County Public Library’s Tennessee Arts Commission Touring Arts Grant with grant funds matched by the faculty, staff and students at Martin Methodist College.
"Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl" is presented in conjunction with the Tennessee Holocaust Commission, and following the performance, the audience will get the rare opportunity to hear first-hand experiences shared by Holocaust survivors.
The cast includes Audrey Stanley as Anne, Cassia Wilson as Anne #2, Emily Brennan as Dark Cloud/Anne #3, Julia Mitchell as Margot, and Tony Montalvo as Peter. All dancers are members of Nashville Ballet 2 (NB2), the pre-professional company of Nashville Ballet.
Choreographer Gina Patterson has been hailed as a creative force of "startling originality" and "a standout on the soulful front." She was awarded the Choo San Goh Award for Choreography, the B. Iden Payne Award, and has presented five pieces at Ballet Builders in New York.
The composer, Mark Volker, is coordinator of composition studies and assistant professor of music at Belmont University’s School of Music in Nashville. His music has been performed and recorded all over the world, and he has received awards from ASCAP, Meet the Composer, SCI and ERMedia.
