Sartre's renowned play, 'No Exit,' is next up for Martin Players

Drama set in World War II France to be performed Feb. 28-29 and March 2

2/19/2012

The Martin Players will present Jean-Paul Sartre’s "No Exit" next week in the Gault Fine Arts Center Recital Hall.

Performance dates are Tuesday, Feb. 28, Wednesday, Feb. 29, and Friday, March 2, at 7 p.m. each evening. The production is free to all Martin Methodist students and personnel. Admission for the public is $4 for students and $6 for adults.

Written and performed in occupied France during World War II, "No Exit" is the story of three people – a man and two women – who find themselves in hell. Physically, hell is a hotel room where the lights are always on and no one ever sleeps. Philosophically, hell is, as one of the characters says, "other people."

" ‘No Exit’ is a brilliant existentialist drama that explores the cost and consequences of human actions and personal identity, " said Dr. Kayla McKinney Wiggins, who is directing this renowed play for the second time. "The Gault is the perfect venue for this play. The intimate space really draws the audience in and creates a sense of participation in the action."

The Martin production features Jaye Phelps as Cradeau, Lacy Denny as Inez, Hannah Kennedy as Estelle, and Jared Majors-Manley as the Bellboy. The production crew includes Dakota Shouse (assistant director), Willow Cline (stage manager), and Emily Rose Clayton and Jessica Haywood (production assistants).

"No Exit" is presented by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc. The audience is cautioned that the play includes strong language and adult themes. For additional information, contact Dr. Kayla McKinney Wiggins at 931-363-9859 or at kwiggins@martinmethodist.edu.
