INTRAMURAL SOFTBALL RULES
NSA Softball rules will be in effect with the exception of the following ground rules.
**Varsity athletes are not allowed to play an intramural sport in which they are receiving scholarship.
*If you are receiving athletic scholarship in this sport; you may not participate in this sport, but you may serve as coach. Only one registered coach per team, beginning 2013-2014
*If you compete for Martin Methodist College (MMC) at any level during this academic year in this sport or are reporting to a coach during this academic year; you may not compete in this sport, but you may serve as coach.
GAME TIMING
All games will be limited to seven innings or fifty five minutes.
FLY RULE
-
In field fly rule is in effect for all games. (fly ball can not be caught and dropped to make a double play)
BASES
-
Leaving the base line is an automatic out. (any motions to obstruct a fielder’s ability to make a throw will also result in an automatic out)

When a ball goes out of play, a runner will be given the base made plus one. A base is not considered made until it has been touched.
HOME RUN RULE
-
Each team is allowed 5 homeruns per game. Any balls going over the fence will be an automatic out.

Ball bounced over the fence; ground rule double – batter goes to second base
FOUL BALL
-
A foul ball on the second strike will be a strikeout.
MERCY RULE
-
There will be a 15 run mercy rule in effect at the end of four complete innings and a 10 run mercy rule after five complete innings.
SLIDING RULE

There will be NO sliding allowed. All bases that slide away from the spot are still considered to be on the spot. If a runner was safe and the base slides away, the runner cannot be tagged out. If a runner approaches a base that has been moved due to a previous play, that runner does not need to go out of his/her way to find the base. Runners only need to go into the area where the base would have been. This is a judgment call and cannot be appealed.
PITCHING RULE

The ball must go at least 6ft and under 10ft
COURTEOUS RUNNER
-
Cannot bat or otherwise play in that game

The courteous runner will be discussed at all captains meeting prior to the season

Must be to the right of the umpire with one part of the body touching the gate
OTHER RULES
-
Only run through 1st base

Teams must use ten (10) players in the field. Team must have at least nine players to start. When a team plays with less than ten players, an out will be recorded with the open batter's turn at bat . (Note: can addtenth player at anytime).

All players are eligible to hit. Players do not have to play in the field to hit.

Once a player leaves the batting order, he/she cannot re-enter the game.

You must have 2 females on the field at all times. If you do not have 2 females present that are listed on your roster it is an automatic forfeit.

Balls used for game will be 12 inch balls that are brought by Intramural supervisor.

All other equipment must be provided by individuals/teams.

No Metal Spikes – if this happens the player will be suspended from 2games
-
No throwing bats (1 warning, then out) – this will be a judgment call by the onsite supervisor

Ball going over the fence (HR) and defensive player tries to catch it and tips it over Homerun still counts, unless at homerun limit and then results in an out.

Any clarifications will be made by the supervisor on duty.

Rosters are due prior to first game. Any player that plays on a team that they are not on the roster of will result in forfeit of that game and that player will not be allowed to play the rest of the season.
