Dr. Thomas combines strong academic qualifications with an extensive professional background. She earned her MBA with Distinction from the Harvard Business School in 1980, and her Doctorate in Business Administration with Distinction from the Harvard Business School in 1987. She taught in the MBA program at the Harvard Business School, and in the MBA and Doctoral programs at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In these programs she taught Marketing Management, Industrial Marketing, and Sales Force Management. She has also taught in numerous university-based executive education programs. She holds the CCIM certification in Commercial Real Estate and is a member of the CCIM faculty, teaching Investment Analysis and Market Analysis. She currently teaches Negotiations and Conflict Management, Business-to-Business Marketing, and Managing People in Martin Methodist College's Center for Executive and Professional Development. She teaches Marketing Management in the MBA Program.
Her business experience includes consulting and line management with profit-and-loss responsibility. Some of the positions she has held are Senior Vice President at Mathematica Policy Research, a public policy research leader; Strategy Consultant, Bain and Company; Senior Vice President managing the sales force and also functioning as a Senior Consultant at Arthur Consulting Group, an international economic and valuation consulting firm; Chief Investment Officer for a healthcare real estate investment trust; and Managing Director in the Capital Group of Newmark Knight Frank, an international commercial real estate company. She has consulted with numerous companies including SC Johnson, AT&T, Estee Lauder, and many others.
She founded and manages the Center for Executive and Professional Development at Martin Methodist College, and is in the process of starting Maker Lab, a community resource for aspiring creators, inventors, and entrepreneurs.
