Martin Methodist College held its 2017 Commencement Baccalaureate service at First United Methodist Church in Pulaski, Tenn., on Friday, May 5 with Reverend Deborah C. Suddarth, Executive Pastor at Collierville United Methodist Church in Memphis, Tenn., as honorary speaker.

She encouraged graduates with her meaningful message, comparing their graduation from college to a mountain-top experience. “From the top of your mountain, you can look down from where you came, or you can gaze upon where it is you would like to go,” Suddarth said. “Embrace this moment, for it is yours.”

Suddarth specializes in pastoral care, congregational care ministries, discipleship, safe sanctuaries and lay ministries. She received a bachelor’s degree in religion from Oklahoma City University, a master’s degree in divinity from Vanderbilt Divinity School and became an ordained Deacon within the Oklahoma Conference in 1996. Soon after, Suddarth transferred to the Memphis Conference and became an ordained Elder in 1999.
