Martin Methodist College kicks off 148th academic year
August 10, 2017
Martin Methodist College (MMC) will welcome 960 students on campus next week to begin the college’s 148th academic year.
Martin Welcome Week will begin on Saturday, August 19 with M-Day (Martin Move-In Day) where faculty, staff and upperclassmen will welcome 350 new students as they begin their college careers at MMC. Martin Welcome Week activities will continue throughout the week leading up to the first day of class on Wednesday, August 23.
“This is a very exciting time at the college as we prepare to welcome our returning students back to campus and to start getting to know our new students,” said Robby Shelton, executive vice president and chief operating officer. “We are looking forward to a great year and to seeing all the wonderful things this class of incoming freshmen will accomplish while at MMC.”
On Tuesday, August 22, the annual Martin Welcome Week concert and fireworks show will be held on the Campus Green and will feature the Celebrity Allstar Band (CAB). With former members of Earth Wind & Fire, Bette Midler, Janet Jackson and Kenny Loggins, the CAB delivers an exciting and dynamic show that will bring the house down. Admission is $10 per person, with all students (k-college), faculty and staff admitted free of charge. Music begins at 6:30 p.m., and the fireworks show will begin immediately following the concert—around 8:15 p.m. Bring a lawn chair, blanket and picnic basket and enjoy good fun.
The 2017-18 academic year will officially begin on the first day of class, and Martin Welcome Week will conclude with a block party at the Student Union Building on Thursday, August 24.
