Jon Robinson to Receive S.O.A.R. Award at BBQ Hill

The Martin Methodist College Athletic Department is excited to announce its third annual S.O.A.R. Award Presentation, which will be held at the world-famous “BBQ Hill” in Lynchburg, Tennessee on the grounds of a U.S. National Register of Historic Places on Friday, June 8.
Tennessee Titans Executive Vice President and General Manager, Jon Robinson, will serve as the 2018 S.O.A.R. Award recipient.
The S.O.A.R. award is an honor to be presented annually to an individual who has demonstrated persistence in his or her profession, pursuits of ideals, and passion for excellence. This award is dedicated to persons of all walks of life in their persistence for reflecting excellence within our great state of Tennessee.
Jon Robinson was hired as Titans general manager on Jan. 14, 2016 after spending two years as director of player personnel for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Nearly one year later, on Jan. 5, 2017, he was promoted to executive vice president/general manager.
Robinson's work in his first two years helped the team go from three wins in the season prior to his arrival to consecutive 9-7 seasons and a Divisional Round playoff finish following the 2017 campaign. He became the fifth general manager in franchise history to have the team in the playoffs within his first two full seasons.
Prior to joining Tampa Bay, Robinson spent 12 years with the New England Patriots, including his last five years (2009-13) as the director of college scouting. In the five years heading up their college scouting, the Patriots added a number of key components to their roster that won the Super Bowl in 2014, including wide receiver Julian Edelman, defensive back Devin McCourty, tight end Rob Gronkowski, tackle Nate Solder and defensive end Chandler Jones. He joined the Patriots as an area scout in 2002, a role he served for four seasons. Robinson then spent two years (2006-07) as a regional scout, before being promoted to assistant director of college scouting in 2008 and then director of college scouting in 2009. In his time scouting for the Patriots the team won 10 division titles, four conference titles and two Super Bowls (2003, 2004).
The June 8 event will feature dinner, live entertainment, social interaction as well as a live auction with a number of high-profile sports memorabilia and other items to be sold.
All proceeds for the event will directly benefit the Martin Methodist Student-Athlete Enhancement Department and its S.O.A.R. (Success Over and Above the Rest) program. Specifically, the event’s proceeds will be earmarked for the S.O.A.R. program’s Senior Success Series – a collection of hands-on, educational seminars provided exclusively for RedHawk senior student-athletes to help prepare for the challenges of life upon the conclusion of their tenure at Martin Methodist.
In addition to the auction and live entertainment, guests will be able to enjoy the breathtaking views from atop the world-famous BBQ Hill, which serves as one of the most exclusive venues in the entire southeast.
Tickets to the event, which runs 5:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. are on sale now for $75. Eight-person tables will also be available for purchase at a price of $600. All guests must be 21 and over. Gates for the event open at 5:30 p.m. with shuttles running to the top of BBQ Hill every 15 minutes from the Visitors Center Parking. Guests are requested to please arrive before 6:30 p.m.
