Vocational Discernment and Church Leadership
Who am I? And, who is God calling me to be?
Religious Life hopes to walk alongside you as you wrestle these questions of "call", also known as "Vocational Discernment", through Vocational Conversations, The Call, and church-related conferences.
Vocational Conversations occur a few times a year and include a catered lunch and a guest speaker sharing his/her vocational journey. Some of the past speakers have been: Cal Turner, Jr. of Dollar General, Sarah Wilke of Upper Room, Bishop Bill McAlilly of the TNUMC, Supreme Court Justice, Connie Clark, and the former CEO of Methodist LeBonheur Healthcare.
The Summer Missions/Ministry Fair is a newer event in which 12+ non-profit organizations come to campus to share about their summer and/or year-round opportunities for hands-on vocational discernment and ministry.
The Call is a ministry of Religious Life focused on identifying, recruiting, and training lay and clergy leaders for The United Methodist Church. Students interested in honoring church leadership skills may apply for The Call each November. To review the application and terms for The Call, please click The Call Application and Terms of Relationship.
The United Methodist General Board of Higher Education and Ministry (GBHEM) resources ministries like ours through their Collegiate Ministry Office. These resources include two conferences: Imagine What's NEXT and Exploration. Talk to your College Chaplain if you are interested in attending one of these conferences: Rev. Laura K. McMasters, firstname.lastname@example.org
